Trauma-Informed Therapy for Couples and Relationships in NYC
Virtual therapy throughout New York and New Jersey.
Therapy for couples who are tired of feeling worn thin in their relationship.
Does this sound familiar?
"I love this person, so why does being close to them feel so difficult?"
"Something keeps going wrong in my relationships, and I don't understand why."
"I don't want to lose this relationship, but I don't know how to make it work."
"Why do small things between us become such big things?"
"Why do I pull away when I actually want closeness?"
"Why do I keep replaying the conversation in my head?"
"I want love to feel easier than this."
You don't have to keep figuring this out alone. Therapy can help you understand your relationships and create new ways of connecting with yourself and with the people you love.
Always trying to get it right and never feeling good enough is exhausting.
On the outside, you look like you have it together. But on the inside, something just doesn't feel quite right. You've been stuck in the same place in your relationship for so long that the relationship, itself, has become activating and you find yourself reaching for other things to soothe the pain. You may be gaining weight, lying awake at night just thinking about the relationship, or constantly doubting yourself and replaying conversations.
You’re waiting for that moment when someone pulls away. The fear that they will leave lingers in the back of your head like an itch you can’t scratch and you find yourself doing whatever it takes to maintain the connection. Trying to get it right and never feeling good enough.
And it keeps happening. Different person, same experience. Another relationship that leaves you asking the question: what is wrong with me?
But there's nothing wrong with you. You're just stuck in a cycle that no one ever taught you how to name, let alone change. It’s hard to not feel like everyone has figured out something you missed. If you are ready to look at what’s underneath the pain and create the fulfilling relationships you deserve, then you’re in the right place.
Hi, I’m Jem
I am so glad you found your way here.
I help adults and couples who are tired of feeling spent in their relationships get their life back. My approach goes deeper than the symptoms, in order to help you heal your relationships and feel close again.
Together, we can explore the cycle you keep getting pulled into: the moments when one person reaches and the other withdraws, when vulnerability turns into defensiveness, when old wounds get activated, or when you both end up feeling misunderstood, rejected, or alone.
My role isn’t to take sides, assign blame, or give you a formula for the “right” relationship. It’s to help you understand each other more deeply, communicate what is often difficult to say, repair what has been hurt, and create new ways of relating that feel more secure, intimate, and alive.
I blend together relational and systemic therapy, trauma and body-based work, mindfulness and breath work that draws from the advanced trainings and certifications that I've learned over years of practice and study. Rather than fitting your relationship into a particular framework, I bring these approaches together in response to who you both are, what's happening between you, and the patterns that may be getting in the way of the closeness you're both reaching for.

While medication and symptom relief can be important parts of care, meaningful therapeutic work can also help you build resources that extend beyond the therapy room. It’s an investment in your quality of life, your relationships, and how you experience yourself and the world around you.
For this reason, I do not take insurance. This allows me to structure our work around your individual needs and therapeutic goals, rather than cater to the limitations that can accompany insurance-based care.
I’m happy to provide you with a superbill each month that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. I recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits. Many of my clients are able to receive reimbursement through their plans though benefits are subject to change, at will, by the insurance companies.
Why you should consider working with an “out of network” therapist:
Greater flexibility in your care. Our work can be guided by your needs and progress, without relying on insurance authorization for each phase of treatment. Session frequency and duration will still be determined collaboratively based on your needs.
More personalized, intentional care. We can draw on a range of therapeutic approaches and tailor our work to your goals, experiences, and circumstances.
Greater privacy and control over your information. Out-of-network care can reduce the information shared with insurers for reimbursement purposes. However, submitting a superbill may require diagnostic and other identifying information, and confidentiality remains subject to applicable legal and ethical exceptions.
More transparency around costs. We can discuss fees and payment expectations directly, helping you plan for care and make informed decisions about continuing therapy.
A focus on your goals. Our work is guided by your lived experience, priorities, and therapeutic needs, rather than solely by what an insurance plan determines it will cover.
Ultimately, therapy is an investment in how you live, how you relate, and how you move through the challenges life brings. My goal is to offer thoughtful, individualized care that supports not only how you feel today, but also the life and relationships you want to build over time.

Many clients report experiencing some level of relief and a greater sense of well being in 12 sessions. However, the timeline for healing from trauma varies greatly between individuals, typically based on complexity of the trauma, life circumstances, and individual resilience.
I will work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, and I am invested in creating space that lends itself to sustainable healing and recovery.

While it is likely that you will experience some intensification of emotions or physical sensations as you process your trauma in counseling, that is a good sign. It means your body is starting to process and integrate repressed experiences.
My somatic approach to trauma treatment offers you tools for navigating challenging emotions and moving through pain towards a place of growth and healing.

In our first session, we will review intake paperwork together. We will talk about how you are feeling about starting the process, and we will collaborate on what feels important to you. The first few sessions may feel like a bit of story telling to catch me up on your history. I also work intentionally to check in and make sure that our work is still feeling like a good fit for you.
